This is Acacia who came to us at HEART 10 days ago. She was named Acacia by the director as she came to HEART in May.
She came to HEART thanks to a very kind lady. Acacia had an owner, but the lady was concerned as she was tied up all day on a short leash.
We got a call from the lady a few days before Acacia came to HEART with this sad story. The lady was looking for a dog (Acacia) who had escaped from the short leash. The former owner had not been looking for her and had gone so far as getting rid of her dog house. The lady was searching all over for the dog on her own and eventually found her at the pound. She was not deemed eligible for adoption and it was difficult for anyone except for the former owner to get her out. The lady negotiated with the pound and the former owner and was able to rescue her. However, the lady is not able to keep pets where she lives so Acacia was handed over to HEART.
The above photo is of Acacia when she was handed over to HEART. She was frightened after having been in the pound and in a new place. We kept her away from the other dogs for the first few days, but she gradually got used to everyone and, as you can see below, is now showing us her smile!
The lady who rescued Acacia comes to HEART several times a week to help walk and feed Acacia and her friends. She is also helping us out with PR for the shelter. Everyone, including Acacia, was so happy when she came that first time to walk Her. Acacia was abandoned by her owner, but the kind lady saved her life and prevented her from being gassed to death at the pound.
Acacia and her friends are all waiting for their forever homes at HEART. If you are interested in her, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
